The first three episodes of Apple TV+’s six-part documentary series chronicling Lionel Messi’s move to Inter Miami will premiere Oct. 11, the company announced Monday. The final three episodes will follow later in the Major League Soccer season, the company said.
The series is the “first and only behind-the-scenes account of this new chapter in Messi’s record-breaking career,” per Apple TV+. Messi, 36, moved to MLS in the summer and made an immediate splash after leaving European club Paris Saint-Germain.
He helped Miami win the Leagues Cup in August, scoring nine goals through six games with the club. Apple TV+ announced the series in August amid Miami’s Leagues Cup push and promised “unprecedented access” to take viewers behind the scenes of Messi’s arrival in Miami.
A teaser of the series, titled “Messi Meets America,” posted on YouTube features clips of interviews with Messi and former international soccer star and Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham.
It is produced for Apple by Smuggler Entertainment, and produced in association with MLS.
Apple is the official broadcast partner of MLS, with the tech company committing to a minimum of $2.5 billion over the next decade in June last year.
The company offered Messi a share of the revenue generated by new subscribers following his move.
“I couldn’t be happier coming to Miami and joining such an amazing group of people and organization,” Messi said upon his move.
“I’m joining with the desire to compete, win and help the club continue to grow. I also think we’re going to really enjoy ourselves, have a good time and that very special things are going to happen.”
Messi missed his third consecutive game Saturday when Inter Miami drew with New York City FC.
