The relationship between Lionel Messi and Carlos Salvador Bilardo goes beyond purely sporting matters.
Jorge Bilardo, the doctor’s brother, had a friendly chat with Emiliano Nunia on Super Deportivo Radio on Radio Villa Trinidad in Argentina and told some intimacies of Carlos Salvador Bilardo’s day to day life.
When asked about his health, Jorge said: “He knows us all well: he bathes, eats, changes, but he doesn’t talk much, he doesn’t follow a conversation,” he explained.
He also confessed how he reacts to every Messi goal. “Messi brings a smile to Carlos’ face. When Messi scores a goal, Carlos laughs, he smiles and says: “Damn, he plays well”.
Finally, he imagined what the scenario would have been like with his brother as President of the nation. “If Carlos were President of the nation, he would take a bus to the government house. He would be ashamed to spend other people’s money,” he said.
Medical attention
Carlos Bilardo remains in his flat in Caballito, under constant care by doctors treating him for Hakim-Adams syndrome, a progressive neurological disease for which he has been under treatment since before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
His brother Jorge, one of the people who is usually by his side, gave more details of his condition and revealed some of his reactions. “It’s a disease that the doctors have already told him that he won’t die from, he’ll die from something else, but not from this. He struggles to chat. For example, you say to him: ‘Hey, Carlos, it’s hot’ and he answers: ‘Yes!’ and then he cuts it off. He recognises all of us, that’s good, but he doesn’t have the chat of a conversation, he doesn’t talk much”, he explained.
