Tata Martino was in no mood for jokes after Inter Miami‘s 1-0 defeat to Charlotte.
The Florida side are out of the MLS playoffs, and the Argentine coach was annoyed by an awkward question related to that, which also questioned his time with the Mexican national team.
“Do you consider Inter Miami‘s participation in the tournament a failure? With big stars, they brought you in to lift the team, not just to compete, because the fans demand that you should be among the first places,” asked the journalist: “In Mexico they say that the team plays better with Jaime Lozano than with you,” he added.
The Inter Miami coach’s reaction was immediate at the press conference. “Uh, you came with everything, you came with your caps on tonight. You’re not Mexican, are you? If Mexico plays better, good for them, and it means it’s been for the better and of course I don’t know if comparisons should be made. What we have to do is support the process that started and that it ends in good shape,” he replied.
Martino and his anger: If I feel like it I answer, if I don’t, I don’t answer
The Argentine did not bite his tongue either when it came to talking about the alleged failure of Inter Miami to be out of the playoffs.
“The changes that took place, when were they? January, February, March? Answer me what I’m asking you, from what point in time do you analyse this, from the beginning of the year?” he asked the reporter.
“If I feel like it, otherwise I won’t answer. Let’s go to another one, you are very disrespectful to me,” said a visibly disgruntled Tata Martino.
