What to watch on MLS Decision Day
After a long slog from late February to mid-October, the MLS regular season has arrived at the finish line of the regular season: Decision Day, when all games in each conference kick off simultaneously and final regular season honors are often determined.
There’s plenty at stake today: playoff spots are still on the line as well as seeding and venues for those eventual matchups. Those fine margins can make all the difference once the playoffs actually arrive.

So, for both the Eastern and Western Conference, nine teams qualify for the playoffs, 18 in total.
The top seven teams in each division are given byes to the first round, while the eighth- and ninth-placed teams face off in the Wild Card round.
Round One is a seeded, best-of-three series with the first and third (if needed) matches hosted by the higher seed. Penalties are used if teams are still tied, with extra time used from the Semifinals onwards.
The one-off Conference Semifinals, Conference Final and then the showpiece MLS Cup are hosted by the team with the better regular-season record. All make sense?
